THE HISTORY OF SEKOLAH MENENGAH
KEBANGSAAN LEMBAH KERAMAT
On January 3,
1986, Sekolah Menengah Lembah Keramat
was established to continue the government's aspiration to provide
the students with proper education. This school covers about 50 000
square metres and is located at Jalan AU 4, Lembah Keramat in the
district of Gombak under the supervision of the Ampang Jaya Municipal
Council. Its earliest stage of establishment included the construction
of
five block buildings. Three of the buildings consisting of four levels
accommodate classrooms, science laboratories, Home Science
classrooms, a library, an office, a staff room and a prayer room. The
other two single story blocks were meant to be the Auto Entrepreneur
workshop and canteen.
Though there
were only 20 teachers available to teach about
327 students at that time, it was something that can be proud of as
the
school was too amateur in the educational field.
In 1988, the
number of students rose to 1666 pupils and the
number of students kept rising in the following years. In order to
cope
with the number of students, the dual session system was introduced.
The introduction of the Literature stream was done at the same period,
followed by the Commerce and Science stream. In Fact, they were the
pioneers that had brought Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lembah
Keramat to the arch of merit in the 1989 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
examination.
Within 5 years,
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lembah
Keramat finally had her own notable relic when the Menteri Besar
of Selangor generously donated RM 40 000 for the construction of
the school's surau, Surau al-Falah.
This school
has been promoted to a Grade A school in
December 1992. This is a very motivating achievement for this
school as the school excels in various fields, not only in academic,
but also in the extra curricular activities at district, state, national
and
international levels.
In August 1992,
14 teachers and 417 students were ceded to
the newly built Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Taman Melawati as
the pilot teachers and students. A few years later, in July 1995, another
batch of 12 teachers and 280 students from this school followed the
same step as they were moved to the neighbouring school, the new
Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lembah Keramat (2).
To date, Sekolah
Menengah Kebangsaan Lembah Keramat has
70 teachers and 1440 students, each of them is working hard to realize
the nation's optimism. This school will always step ahead to fulfill
the
National Philosophy of Education and implement three main concepts
in the school motto, that is ‘Berusaha' (Working Hard), ‘Berdisiplin'
(Disciplined) and ‘Berjaya' (Succeed). The executions of these concepts
are made through the curricular and extra curricular activities without
leaving behind the charter, the philosophy and the vision of Sekolah
Menengah Kebangsaan Lembah Keramat.
